Learn About Itchy Scalp
A few years ago, more women embraced the idea of going natural, which I did as well. It meant using more natural skin and hair products and leaving our hair in its natural state. As sweet as it is, making and maintaining natural afro hairstyles, comes with a few challenges.
You should find that managing natural afro hair is indeed easy now, and a lot has to be done for it to stay neat, and also to stop the scalp itchiness.
Probable causes of itchy scalp
Products & Climate:
In other to improve manageability, we tend to use a lot of different hair and scalp products that
block the scalp. Our tropical climate is hot and humid, which would inevitably make us sweat more. The combination of these two factors will attract build-ups and dirt on the scalp causing itching. That is why you notice we women hit/pat our head in public to stop the itching, the men can testify to this.
Afro Hairstyles:
People’s reactions to wigs, braids, weaves, and threading hairstyles are different. To some people, the stress of wearing extensions would make their scalp itch. For others, it’s cost effective to leave extensions in the hair for over a month or two, but this leads to build-up, smelly hair and itchy scalp.
Dandruff & Dry scalp:
Dandruff is a problem noticed in both women and men. The scalp feels dry, itchy and it flakes, leaving white residue on your clothing and pillows. Dry scalp and dandruff problems may look the same, but they are not. You would need to see a Trichologist to ascertain the cause.
Learn how to stop the itchy scalp
- For instant relief, use a scalp soother spray, formulated to stop itching, inhibit the microbial growth, and cool the scalp with wild mint all at once. It is why we call our product a 3-in-1 hair treatment.
- Use shampoos and conditioners designed to prevent itching, dry scalp and moisturise the hair, making it easy to comb. Gush shampoo contains ingredients that remove build-up, prevents dandruff, and soothes the scalp.
- Gush formulated its conditioners to prevent dry scalps, strengthen, and detangle the hair follicles, while soothing the scalp with mint. They are enriched with a blend of unprocessed oils and butter, keratin and vitamin E.

23 Nov 2020I actually went to the store to get the shampoos I use for my beard, but the store was closed. So I went to this other store and they didn’t have them. But they had Gush. So I thought I’d try it. And it’s been actually great. It is smooth and it lathers a lot, like a lot with lots of amazing fragrance. I know it might not safe to just switch shampoos like that, since I use it on facial hair, but Gush has been mild and gentle on my facial skin. I recommend it for beard grooming. It also kinda increases the weight and volume of my beard, in a way…hehe. Like, after every wash, when I comb the beard, it looks bigger. I just stumbled on Gush shampoo, and it is amazing.

19 Nov 2022Gush products are absolutely nice. I’ve been struggling with dandruff and my brother-in-law gave me the spray to try.
I tried it and it worked, dandruff was gone for good. That prompted me to search for the product on Amazon but unfortunately, it’s not available.
I went to their website and ordered more of their products: Spray, Shampoo, and Hair Cream.
The products so good that I use the spray for aftershave. We completely switched to Gush products. I will recommend their products to anyone that’s been struggling on hair care.
